  • Twilight Over San Francisco

    Twilight Over San Francisco

Twilight over San Francisco. This view is from the glass walkway that links the two towers of the former Mandarin Oriental Hotel, now the Loews Regency San Francisco Hotel. It takes a little more effort than usual to capture this picture as the reflections from the windows play havoc with ghost images. A little creative work with careful light shielding (my coat and a helpful passer-by!) allowed me to capture this.

  • Puerto Rico

    Puerto Rico

Remembering Puerto Rico. This beautiful little shack sits in a quiet backwater in the little town of La Parguera on the south western corner of Puerto Rico. The town is full of charm and has some of the best mangrove nature preserves anywhere; snorkeling through the mangrove roots, surrounded by a myriad of fish is a memory that will stay with me always. And then Hurricane Maria came.... I can only hope this little slice of paradise, and the friends we made in La Parguera, have fared well. A beautiful place.

  • Castillo San Cristóbal.

    Castillo San Cristóbal.

Castillo San Cristóbal. This is the view through one of the many arched windows in Castillo San Cristóbal, a beautiful 16th century fort in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The fort has been the center of many battles, seeing action against the English (multiple times!), Dutch, and the Americans. All this action led to a continuous improvement in the island’s defenses, with the main construction of Castillo San Cristóbal occurring in the 18th century. The Spanish-American war resulted in Puerto Rico becoming a US Territory at the end of the 19th century as part of the Treaty of Paris. Today the fort is finally peaceful and filled with a wonderful light spilling in though the stone arches.

  • Boatyard, San Francisco

    Boatyard, San Francisco

I can't resist capturing images of bygone and fading crafts. One day the art of building boats by hand from wood will be a lost art. But for now it's alive and well in this little boat yard, located on one of the piers in Northern San Francisco. My complements to the craftsman.

  • Sunset over San Francisco

    Sunset over San Francisco

Theres something special about the colors and light when the sun sets low over San Francisco. It's always a pleasure to capture the scene.

  • San Francisco Skyline, looking North

    San Francisco Skyline, looking North

This is sunset over San Francisco, looking north towards the Golden gate and bay area. I love how the building pick up the glow from the setting sun, off the west and left hand side of this image.

  • Twilight over San Francisco

    Twilight over San Francisco

This is deep twilight over San Francisco, Looking due South. The light here is magical as the sun sets over the bay area.

  • San Francisco Sunset, 179 MP

    San Francisco Sunset, 179 MP

This is a super-high resolution shot of the beautiful sunset from the top of the Hilton hotel on Union Square. Taken during twilight, I love how the color balances between the city street light glow and the distant sunset. The blue tint to the building roofs comes from the deepening blue sky above the buildings as the sun disappears, and adds a nice color contrast to the sunset and street tones. 5 minutes either side of when this was taken and the shot would have been lost. 16384 x 10928 pixels.
