Three balloons, one crossbow. A bit of fun for this evening. This is a high velocity crossbow bolt piercing three balloons. The crossbow bolt was traveling at 400 feet per second (just over 1/3 of the speed of sound) when this shot was taken. Each of the balloons had a tiny amount of baby powder added, to help pick out their original shapes.

Crossbow with balloon. I love technical photography and it's a nice challenge to capture high speed events like bullets going though eggs, or crossbow bolts piercing balloons. This image features a high speed crossbow bolt traveling at 400 feet per second as it pierces a balloon containing a teaspoonful of water. High speed strobes (16 of them!) provide enough light to freeze the motion with an exposure of 18 millionths of a second.
